~8.000 b.C.: First traces of human life in the Oos-Valley
75-260 A.D.: Roman settlement
after 1473: Kaiser (emperor) Friedrich III. in Baden-Baden for a cure
1689: On August 24th the Great Fire reduced almost all of the town and the nearby castles to rubble. It took nearly a century to rebuild the town.
1797: European princes and diplomats discovered Baden-Baden's charms and a new era began.
1810: Opening of the Casino
1838: Edouard Bénazet took charge of the casino and with his ideas and initiative he managed to turn Baden-Baden into the "Summer Capital of Europe" within a very short time.
1842: H. Huebsch built the Trinkhalle (pump room)
1858: First International Horse Racing Meeting in Iffezheim near Baden-Baden
1863-1875: Fjodor Dostojewski, Clara Schumann, Johannes Brahms, Victor Hugo, Richard Wagner, Queen Victoria of England and Friedrich Nietzsche in Baden-Baden
1945: French troups marched into Baden-Baden
1950: First postwar season as a spa resort
1968: Official opening of the Convention Center
1978: Redevelopment of the old part of the town
The pedestrian precincts were extended
1985: Opening of the Caracalla-Therme
1998: Opening of the Festspielhaus
